August's Charity of the Month: Country Cat Sanctuary

This month's Charity of the Month will be the Country Cat Sanctuary in Oxford Station, Ontario. They are one of the only "No-Kill" shelters in the area and one of the only cat-only shelters as well. They are a registered charity and are always in need of financial help to do their great works. They are almost always willing to take in cats - they converted a horse barn in their back yard to house the cats in comfort, and even have a nursing room in their house for sick or injured kitties (they are currently at capacity due to a very bad year for strays)! A few years ago, when an idiot dumped two kittens in my yard from a moving truck, the Country Cat Sanctuary was the ONLY place that would take them, and I called 4 different shelters!

They have many cats that need forever homes, or, if you can't take one into your own home, they need helpers like you to sponsor a cat - a small donation can pay for their food and other expenses until they are adopted. They also take in cats that aren't able to be adopted - they are too traumatized or are used to being outside, so they need your help in the form of sponsorship.

10% of the total sales before taxes and shipping will go to help this wonderful sanctuary this month. Please visit their website if you would like to see their cats and kittens, as well as read about their success stories and miracle cats. There is also a form that you can print out and mail in with a donation if you would prefer to donate directly to them yourself. http://www.countrycatrescue.com/

Thank you so much for your purchases from the the last 2 months, I have donated $20 to the Lanark Animal Welfare Society!

Have a great day to you, my miracle workers :)

Melodious Monday: June's Charity of the Month!

Thank you to all of my clients for your purchases, you helped donate money to the Arthritis Foundation in Canada and Epic Farms horse rescue in Alabama, U.S.A.!

This month's charity will be the Lanark Animal Welfare Society (L.A.W.S.). They are a local (to me, anyway) animal shelter helping to take care of our stray and unwanted pet population until they get their forever homes. 10% of my sales before taxes and shipping will be donated to them this month, read on below to find out more about the great work they do for our community :)

About L.A.W.S.
LAWS is an independent organization dedicated to promoting the well-being of all animals. It is a registered charity (#BN 11900 4893 RR0001) that survives solely on private donations, receiving no funding from any level of government. Every year the shelter staff deals with over 2500 animals. These are lost, abused, or abandoned animals which are cared for until their rightful owners can be found or they can be placed in new homes.

Our Mission Statement:
To promote the welfare of all animals, to provide shelter and care, and prevent cruelty and suffering for those animals in need.

LAWS History
The Lanark Animal Welfare Society was founded 30 years ago. Initially it was an independent society with a small shelter just outside of Lanark Village. In 1986 LAWS purchased one acre of land on Glenview Road and, with the help of 600 supporters, built a small shelter that housed 12 dogs and a few cats. A cat wing was later added and over the years, the additions have resulted in a shelter which can now house almost one hundred cats, dogs and other small animals.

In the early 1990’s, LAWS became an affiliate of the Ontario S.P.C.A. allowing it to conduct cruelty investigations. In 2002, LAWS hired a full time trained cruelty investigator (agent).

LAWS provides emergency shelter for more than 1,300 animals each year. LAWS receives no funding from any governmental source. Its operating expenses are met from donations from its members, supporters, adoption fees and fundraising activities such as garage sales, raffles, craft sales etc.

The LAWS shelter runs under the supervision of a small paid staff assisted by volunteers who help clean cages, feed and walk the animals and run various events and fundraisers. Some of these volunteers also serve as members for the Board of Directors, helping to make decisions in the operation of the shelter, with a view to improving the long term well being of all animals in this County. Together we can continue to provide shelter for these gentle creatures who do not have a voice of their own.

Again, thank you very much to all of my clients - past, present and future - for helping so many people and animals. You are making a great difference in the happiness of our planet.

Thankful Thursday Part 2 - Donations to Charity!

Well I am happy to announce that my sales last month resulted in my being able to donate to not one, but THREE charities! I was able to give $10 each to the Arthritis Society in Canada, the Multiple Sclerosis Society in Canada and the Lanark Animal Welfare Society! I strongly encourage each and every one of you to visit their websites and donate to help people and animals everywhere. They do such great work, and, with life the way it is, you never know when you might need help from one of them :)
I want to thank everyone who has purchased an item from me, as your purchase has made a difference to many charities worldwide!
THANK YOU!

1 More Day 'Til Spay Day!

Well tomorrow is Spay Day and I really hope you join me in supporting all of the artists trying to help out our local shelters. I notified the Lanark Animal Welfare Society (LAWS) that I am trying to raise money for them and they responded saying they really appreciate and need donations as the pet population is absolutely soaring. They are having a hard time keeping up with the strays coming in and really need our help! Visit their website here for information on them and to donate directly: http://www.lanarkanimals.ca/index.asp
Thanks for your help! I also have a number of items in my Etsy Shop that will donate a specific dollar amount of the sale to LAWS so please check it out. You will be helping a great cause and getting great items at the same time :)
Take care, have a 'furry' good day!
Meghann
P.S. I am so excited - my blog is nearly done and I can't wait to show you the new professional goodness! Tune in tomorrow for more Spay Day, and maybe a new look!!!
