Awen's Wednesdays

Hello everyone, it me, Arwen the Wonder Dog and I'm back for my Arwen's Wednesdays, or "Arwednesdays" as some call it! When we were at the cottage, each night when the sun started to go down, mommy would take me walking along the shoreline to sniff the mail from the dog next door and to try and chase frogs. I wasn't too sure about the lilypads so I didn't go into the water.
When the sun really started to go down, mommy and daddy would sit me in the cottage so that they could take out their little boat on the river and fish or take pictures. I couldn't come because I'm too squirmy and they knew I would try to jump out! Here is a photo of a Blue Heron that mommy took. Sorry it is a bit blurry, but it was taken from the boat! It was a very big heron, with at least 3 feet of wingspan and it had a mate with it as well.
Here is one of the gorgeous sunsets. I really liked this time because it meant that mommy and daddy would be coming back from the water to sit and watch a movie.
I really liked these beautiful sunsets - everything was so calm and I love movie time because mommy and daddy let me sit in between them for a bit so they can cuddle me.
It's a very good life, but all this vacationing has certainly tired me out. I'm going for a nap, see you soon!!

Mommy says to tune in tomorrow for a very special announcement!

Tuesday's Treasures: Another Great Day at the Cottage

~Misty Morning from Our Neighbor's Dock~
I awoke one morning to find Arwen eager to do her business and when I went out to our dock I found a beautiful misty morning! After running inside to grab the camera (and make myself decent!) I found this photo waiting to be taken - it is a view from the neighbor's dock. They were truly delightful people and after I gave them a few of my birthday cupcakes, they reciprocated by giving us a HUGE jar of delicious homemade maple syrup! They have some massive maple trees on their property and each year they tap them to make the most amazing maple syrup I've ever tasted. (Thank you again if you are reading this!).
~BOO!~
I heard a noise while taking photos (sort of a screech followed by a splash) and looked down to find this big guy staring at me. I had no idea bullfrogs can scream, but then again, if they get that big, I suppose anything is possible!
~Our Boat~
This was the view from the boat that we got with the cottage. You can really see all of the beautiful lily pads and a bit of the fog. By this time the fog had started to burn away as the sun was really rising.
~Waterlily~
When I went back onto the deck to enjoy the view, I looked down and found this beautiful little lady waiting for her own closeup. I love these waterlilies and was so very fortunate to capture one open - they close completely as soon as there is too much shade, which happens fairly often as there are many beautiful, mature trees on the shore, waiting to be admired.
~Brennan and a Friend Fishing~
Later on in the day, Brennan had a friend over for fishing and steaks. I also gave him some of my birthday cupcakes and I was delighted to see that he loved them as much as Brennan and I do. He even asked for the recipe - score one for Meghann and my gluten free, Vegan chocolate cupcakes!

I'll have more photos tomorrow....here is another happy one of Arwen - I actually got her with her ears up!!

Melodious Monday: I'm Ba-ack!

~Bedraggled Arwen~

So Saturday the 5 of September was supposed to be a great day. I had booked an appointment to get my hair done and then afterward Brennan had booked a cottage for us to spend 9 idyllic days for our first vacation in 8 years....well....our first vacation ever! We hadn't had a vacation since before starting to work in high school, so this was a big deal. We woke up early on the Saturday to finish packing some things, as Brennan would drop me off at the hairdresser's and continue on to the cottage (only 15 minutes from our house - gorgeous and convenient!) to unload the first bunch of items. He would then pick me up afterward, grab the dog and head on to our merry little Vay-cay. We were very lucky as we were renting the cottage from our neighbor, and while he wasn't initially thrilled with having us bring the dog (being worried, I am sure, about messes), he had relented after we had sworn to be careful and not let her mess anything at the cottage.
~One of the Ginormous Bullfrogs, About the Size of a Salad Plate~

......Yeah, well, it didn't work out that well initially. I let Arwen out first thing to go and do her usual morning business, during which I started breakfast and huffing and puffing our luggage to the entrance for Brennan to load into the car. I suddenly heard a rather triumphant bark at the back door. Tramping my way back I suddenly had one of the worst sights greet me - Arwen with....well....poop smeared all over her face. Yes, she had found some wild animal's poop and rubbed her face quite ferociously in it. My strangled growl of rage and impatience must have scared all of the wild critters for miles, but not my dog, oh no, she was so proud of her new decoration.
~A Beautiful, Wood Panelled Boat Making it's Way Down the River~

In she was dragged, straight to the shower for the fastest, and I am sure, the most thorough bath any dog has ever received, with me horrified all the while that she would smell up the cottage or mess it and make my neighbor hate us.
Once clean, I returned to the kitchen, feeling rather nauseous as I had taken my "take with food" vitamins, only to make the vitamins wait for half and hour while I scrubbed wild animal excrement from my dog's cheeks. Yeah, ew.
While eating breakfast and emptying the fridge of the perishable items to take to the cottage, I was inundated with...that smell. You know....poop. I look down and (squeamish people might want to advance to the next photo) was welcomed with a cheerful sight of dog vomit. Apparently rolling in the poop wasn't good enough. You get the idea, I am sure.
Another strangled cry escaped me, but she looked so pathetic, all bedraggled and wet that I couldn't be mad with her. I found myself comforting her, while trying not to breathe. I cleaned up the mess, hastily packed myself a lunch (my date with the hairdresser's is usually a few hours as I have massive amounts of thick hair) and ran out the door, making it to my appointment with seconds to spare.
~The View from Our Neighbor's Dock - the River is Covered with Lilypads and Waterlily Flowers~

A few hours later, my hair was done, the dog was packed (now smelling quite good) safely in the car with her seat belt, and we got to the cottage to have a dinner and sit out on the large dock to enjoy the large boats going by on a river seemingly made of glass. We had arrived! We were welcomed by some of the largest, no, make that THE largest bullfrogs I have ever seen - some as large as dinner plates - and some wonderfully friendly cottage neighbors.
~Happy to Be at the Cottage~

Coming up the small hill to the cottage, the sun setting in front of us, we were welcomed by this sight, above, of Arwen - she was very happy to be on vacation as well!

More vay-cay shots coming soon, thanks for your patience while we were away without internet access - I can't tell you how much I missed all of my blog friends!

Soulful Sunday - Feels Like Spring!

~One of the Streams Crossing Our Road~
~Another, Wider Stream I Call It a River, (But I'm Pretty Sure It's Not)~~
~The View From the Top of the Hill On Our Road - I LOVE This Land!~

Hallelujah, Spring is almost here! It was a 'balmy' 10 degrees Celsius today (that is 50F for my Imperial friends) and Brennan took me on a quick 4-wheeler ride up our road to see the thawing taking place. The Canada geese had arrived back home after their stay down south for the winter and I really wanted to make sure that there was a place for them! Needless to say, the streams and river near us are thawing (or starting to) and the vantage point from the top of the road shows that most of the snow is gone from the fields! And although I am a little concerned about one point of the road possibly washing away - the culverts are much more noticeable by a few feet on each side - the fact that the snow and ice are melting are great signs of spring and summer coming soon - Woo hoo!
